The Brood
I remember hearing about The Brood years ago. I remember some kids at school talking about this weird movie they had seen. I'm not exactly sure why they were watching this film in the 5th grade, but I recall them not liking it. Now, 7 years later, I've finally had the chance to see The Brood and I loved it. This is the third Cronenberg film that I've seen. His two others I've seen, Videodrome and Naked Lunch seemed to be really similar, with sex and violence being the prominent aspects of the film. In this film, violence and sex are there, but sex doesn't seem to be the driving force of the film. The violence done by the brood seem to be the main focus of the film, as well as what happens after a divorce. I thought The Brood was going to be some fast paced thriller. There were many points in the film that were really fast paced, but it moved much slower than I imagined. With the slow pacing, you really were able to get a better feel for the film, getting to be more personal with the characters. Cronenberg has a style that's really unique, and you can see the starts of it in this film. The Brood was just what I was in the mood for. I've been blown away from the films that I've seen done by Cronenberg, and I can't wait to watch his other films. An interesting thing I noticed about this film was that it felt like I was watching Dario Argento's early films, as well as The Omen. This was such an interesting combination that seems to work perfectly for this film.
The Brood
There could’ve been some stuff cut out even though it’s already pretty short, but other than that it was good. Really loved the effects, the last few minutes were sick. 7/10
