Would You Rather
just not a good movie... like at all
Would You Rather
the ending always hurts me
Would You Rather
Torture porn is a genre that hasn't really seemed to phase me. I started with one of the most gruesome films at the time, with Hostel. I went through a long period where I seemed to become desensitized by violence and gore. After years of horror films, I can gladly say that nothing seems to phase me. Would You Rather is that rare exception, where I really actually started to squirm. The premise is extremely simple, where they play would you rather, or an altered and violent version of it. There is a small cast, making it much easier for you to become attached to one character, and everyone watching this did attach to one character. There were characters that we all came to despise, and some that we truly were rooting for. A small cast makes it easier to create personalities and really show who characters are, despite their lack of screentime throughout. What made me squirm wasn't the actual violence, but the fact that people were deserting who they were for the sake of money. It terrified me to see normal people turn on what they believed in so they could gain financially. It's horrifying to see a person become someone that they are not, just for a financial gain. While the climax was pretty predictable, the challenges that each person had to go through were very unpredictable. It was scary seeing these people go through each of these challenges, knowing that they possibly may die because of it. Money makes the world go around, and Would You Rather really highlights the horrors of it. While it may not be as graphic as many torture porn films I have seen, it was still terrifyingly real. The ending itself of the film left me dissatisfied, but the actual plot of the film kept me entirely engaged. With my friends, we all were having such a fun time watching it, hoping that our favorite character was going to make it (which, sadly, did not survive). Would You Rather is a great low-budget horror film with a surprising look into greed and desperation.

Overall kinda meh, but I loved scenery chewing evil millionaire Jeffrey Combs.
