This thing really pops off and steps into its slasher elements in the third act—and even before that it was still miraculous. Aside from its weak titles—from Night Warning to Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker, they sound way more campy than it really is—this 1982 thriller is a warm bucket of thrills and suspense, neatly wrapped inside a somewhat cheesy, but mostly thoughtful tale of murder and insanity. The characters are good—specifically its lead and his crazy Aunt—and the pacing is pretty strong. Come to think of it, there's absolutely no dull moments. Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker is a surprising slasher, even with its dashes of slow-motion kills that appear a tad lame, and not to mention the absurdness that comes with it. 3.7/5
