NO SPOILERS/SIN SPOILERS Spanish: De lo que he visto y escuchado, el cine de Yorgos Lanthimos puede catalogarse como un cine de autor algo bizarro, diferente, arriesgado y absurdo. ¿Transgresor? Tal vez; tendría que ver más de su filmografía para confirmarlo, pero de momento me parece interesante. En Bugonia, toma la premisa de un ser conspirativo que secuestra a una CEO de élite porque según él es un alien. Definitivamente, es una experiencia única, pues nunca había visto algo similar. La película se inspira en una obra coreana llamada Save The Green Planet (2003), explorando las consecuencias de las teorías conspirativas, el control de masas y la desinformación. De alguna manera, es curioso cómo indirectamente se retrata el trastorno de paranoia que genera ese rabbit hole que alimentan los algoritmos en las redes sociales: cómo buscamos a muerte cualquier cosa que reafirme esas ideas, y aunque sepamos que es una locura, ¿el "loco" es consciente de que lo es? ¿Cómo podría ser eso posible si su punto de referencia está distorsionado? De forma técnica, la película está ejecutada con una maestría evidente: la fotografía es impecable, la puesta en escena está muy cuidada y, aunque se desarrolle en sets algo limitados, nunca se siente estática. Las actuaciones de Emma Stone y Jesse Plemons son tan fenomenales; de verdad que es un placer verlos interactuar. Su duelo actoral es divertido de observar sobre todo por cómo se torna un poco más violento. Es una progresión algo turbia, pero entretenida, ya que todos están igual de rotos. La película tiene un humor bastante fino que te hace reír, te hace sentir incómodo o ambas. Y sabe jugar muy bien en esa ambigüedad moral retorcida. Cabe mencionar que la banda sonora fue lo que más me gustó: es muy orquestal y me encanta cómo pasa de lo soft a lo explosivo, con un crescendo algo épico que complementa a la perfección ese vibe psicótico y ese deterioro moral de la historia. Esos violines te hacen sentir que estás viendo algo neurótico y muy abejistico. La verdad qué maravilla de banda sonora. La amé. El final es oscuro. Aunque podría haber sido diferente, pero después de todo creo que no habían muchas opciones. No diré más para no spoilear, pero sí digo que no me sorprendió, ya que me había spoileado con un frame y lamentablemente até cabos 😓. Y a pesar de que no fui muy fan de la trama, me entretuvo y fue una experiencia distinta que merece ser vista; sobre todo por la grandiosa actuación de Jesse —que se devora incluso a una Emma pelona llena de crema, ganadora de dos premios Oscar a Mejor Actriz—por su interpretación llena de matices desde el delirio, el dolor y el trauma. Transgressive? Maybe I’d need to see more of his filmography to be sure, but so far, I find it interesting. In Bugonia, he takes the premise of a conspiratorial being who kidnaps a high-level CEO because he thinks she’s an alien. It’s a truly unique experience, as I’ve never seen anything like it. Inspired by the Korean movie Save The Green Planet (2003), the film explores the consequences of conspiracy theories, mass control, and misinformation. In some ways, it’s interesting how it portrays the paranoia disorder triggered by the rabbit holes fed by social media algorithms: how certain ideas latch onto anything that reinforces them, and even if we know it’s crazy, is the “crazy” person aware they are? How could that even be possible if their frame of reference is completely distorted? Technically, the film is executed masterfully: the cinematography is flawless, the staging efficient, and even though the spaces are limited, it never feels static. Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons deliver such phenomenal performances that they steal the show in every scene; it’s truly a pleasure to watch them interact and gesture. They have a beastly capacity for manipulation, and that whole CONFESS! duel was so funny: "I’m sorry, Teddy", and how it gradually turns a bit more violent. I loved that progression. The score is very orchestral, and I love how it moves from soft to explosive progressively, with an almost epic crescendo, amplifying the psychotic vibe and moral decay of the story. Those violins make you feel like you’re watching something neurotic—a tense, atmospheric descent. I loved it. The ending is dark, inevitably. It could’ve been different, but after all, there weren’t many options. I won’t say more to avoid spoilers, but I will say I wasn’t surprised, as I’d already been spoiled by a frame and, unfortunately, connected the dots. Even though I’m not usually a big fan of the plot, I was entertained and it was a distinct experience that deserves to be seen.Especially because of Jesse’s amazing performance, who even outshines a bald Emma Stone covered in cream, a two-time Oscar winner for Best Actress. Go watch it!! Oh god hahahah I love the idea that every time I tweak this review, I have to check if I’m an alien, wtf ausjajksks. Tbh, now seriously, I kind of want to shave my head.
