A friend of mine has a theory. He believes that people can only have a certain number of friends. And if you meet a new friend, you'll lose one of the old ones. Spanish: ¡Qué belleza de guión! Me encantó; me pareció perfecto. Toda una joya dentro de tanta espuma. Por alguna razón, me recordó al cine de Kiéslowski y su cortometraje Talking Heads, donde se entrevistan a personas de diferentes edades, desde un bebé hasta un anciano centenario, con preguntas como: “¿Quién eres?” y “¿Qué es lo que más desearías?”. Y es increíble cómo la respuesta va mutando y adquiriendo complejidad con la edad. Aquí, en Emilie Muller, es impresionante lo interesante que puede ser la historia detrás de cada objeto dentro de un bolso; ya que cada objeto revela algo de su vida y de su forma de ser ante ella: su familia, amigos, amores, filosofía, lo que le gusta leer, sus sueños… Este es el vivo ejemplo de que con poco, puedes hacer mucho, y me fascina. Ese concepto de primer casting me parece genial y la actuación de Veronika Varga lo eleva al máximo, otorgándole una naturalidad impresionante al guión que cautiva sutilmente al espectador. Una interpretación genuinamente hermosa, que al final te saca tremenda risa. ¡Qué final! “I make myself write something down every day. It's like a job for me. I write about things I see, or do, about people I meet. About everything.” Eso me recordó también a mis tiempos de escribirlo todo. ¡Dios, cuánto extraño esos momentos de hacer pequeñas postales y grabaciones de cualquier pensamiento, idea o reflexión de una experiencia vivida! Hace tiempo dejé ese hobby, en el que narraba y describía cada suceso observado por las calles o de mi vida. Pero bueno, al menos estoy escribiendo reseñas. Las cosas evolucionan supongo. En definitiva, es un cortometraje francés de alto calibre que usa su corta duración para dejar una gran impresión. Y vaya que no esperé que fuese tan buena. De esas rarezas que poco se encuentran. Se los recomiendo muchísimo. English: What a great script! I loved it; it felt perfect. This French short film is an exotic gem hidden amidst so much froth. For some reason, it reminded me of Kieslowski’s short film Talking Heads, where people of different ages — from a baby to a centenarian — are interviewed with questions like: “Who are you?” and “What do you most wish for?” It’s incredible how the answers evolve and gain complexity with age. Here, in Émilie Muller, it’s impressive how fascinating the story behind each object in a handbag can be. It’s not just a “what’s in my bag?” conversation; each object tells you something about her life, her family, friends, lovers, philosophy, reading habits, dreams… This is a perfect example of how you can do so much with so little, and it amazes me. The first casting concept is brilliant, and Veronika Varga’s performance elevates it to the maximum, giving the script an incredible naturalness that subtly captivates the viewer. A genuinely beautiful performance that leaves you laughing heartily at the end. “I make myself write something down every day. It's like a job for me. I write about things I see, or do, about people I meet. About everything.” Oh man, I miss those moments of making little voice notes of every thought, idea, or reflection from lived experiences. I haven’t done that in so long, but at least now I’m writing reviews. Things evolve, I guess. This is the first high-caliber short film that made me say: This is cinema! I highly recommend it.
