Diary Entry forSexy Beast
Me gustaron mucho. --------------------------------------------------------------- English: It had been a while since I’d seen such clean and flawless cinematography. The editing is elegant and sophisticated. The transitions were incredibly smooth and pleasing to the eye. The performances are outstanding: Don in particular feels straight out of The Sopranos, intense and magnetic. And while Ted’s performance is more restrained, it’s also unsettling, arguably even scarier. I loved the execution of the “Let me tell you a story” scene when Don explains why he’s there. The heist sequence synchronized with the brutal and unexpected ending attack was amazing. Throughout the whole film, they used sound masterfully to create contrast and tension. I really loved that. Even without a traditional plot twist, it still manages to surprise you. For some reason, it holds your attention from the restaurant scene onward. Just a single phone call manages to ruin the night for four people. The acting there was spot-on. I really liked it. Everything is masterfully crafted, and it’s so satisfying to watch. The cinematography is gorgeous, and some of the camera movement and transitions reminded me of the greats with handled experimental touches. The music complements very well. I really liked that Caribbean vibe from Cuba by the Gibson Brothers, and especially the tango-like, romantic feel of Lujon by Henry Mancini (my favorite). At the end of that song, there's an image of Gal and his wife like they were underwater, while floating in the sky. Stunning. The violence catches you completely off guard. You know something’s coming, but not when or how. And that sense of uncertainty creates incredible tension. It reminded me of how Breaking Bad, Goodfellas, or The Godfather slowly lay the groundwork and when the shocking moments finally arrive, they explode in your face and stay with you long after. The ending is good. It’s nothing like what I expected, and I absolutely loved it. Every part of it feels intentional and flawlessly executed. And those strange, sudden sci-fi-ish touches very Donnie Darko-like. Unexpected, but they work surprisingly well. They deepen into Gal’s psyche: haunted by what he’s witnessed and his past as a criminal.

Meticulous chaos! So our local library had that one Director's Label DVD for Glazer which I'd never seen before-- tell you what, after going through that we were grounded for this excellent experience in tension and cinematic glee. Revels in its movements, picking at the genre like a scab. I'm also taking that dose of good will and power I received from Cabiria and putting more stars into this silly world. Five stars for Ben Kingsley's turret-like head movement alone. Another couple stars for just slapping cameras on various doors. So ritzy, one more for wife-guy Winstone pan-seared and sizzling in that perennial criminal off-ramp. And a lot of other things. Engaging actors uttering things. Glint off a McShane smile careening like a boulder.
Sexy Beast
kind of the best movie ever because they used a needledrop of Lujon by Henry Mancini. Ben Kingsley rocks. Also my first Glazer film
Sexy Beast
Ray Winstone is so fucking cool. One of the best voices ever.
