Diary Entry forEnter the Void
--------------------------------------------------------------- Enter the Void is such a trippy, colorful ride – but also really strange. English: The camera embodies a young drug dealer in Tokyo who, after dying, wanders through his life, his death, and what comes after. Seeing the world first through his eyes and then as a drifting spirit is something truly fascinating. The cinematography literally weeps colors, the sound design fully immerses you, and the direction is bold, hypnotic, and all-consuming. The concept is compelling and visually it’s a feast, with incredible transitions—but I felt the themes were touched only on the surface, and some scenes dragged unnecessarily. The film itself felt repetitive at times. It could’ve been more powerful with a tighter runtime. There were moments when I was just waiting for it to end—not because it was bad, but because the intensity wasn’t always backed by substance. Still, Enter the Void is a film to absorb and surrender to its journey.

Enter the Void
Enter the Void
WOW. Just wow. Now THAT'S how real afterlife trip looks like.
Enter the Void
Enter the Void
Enter the Void certainly is a hard film to review. It's more than a film, it's more of a visual experience, with your senses filled with neon and haze, seeming more like a fever dream rather than a film. I've never done any hallucinogenic drugs (or any other kind if anybody thought otherwise), but I'd assume that this is what it's like to be on an acid trip. This is a simple story, following the journey of a spirit once the person has died, wandering until a purpose is found. The POV style was fitting for the premise, allowing us to float along with the character while they attempt to cross over to another plane. Filmed in a similar style to Irreversible actually suited the film, adding flow to the visual style, seeming to go hand in hand with the vibrant visuals. It's a profound film, and one that I will have to watch multiple times to fully grasp everything presented. Gaspar Noé is one of the more notorious auteurs working today, creating some of the most dynamic arthouse films. Now that I've seen this and Irreversible, I can say that I am intrigued to see what else he has to offer. It's an easier film to consume than Irreversible, and has better visuals, but doesn't leave as much of an impact on me personally than Irreversible did. I cannot wait to see Noé's other films, and can't wait until I finally get to see Climax in a few months. MUBI has been getting some great films on there lately, and I am so glad that I finally started paying attention to it, since there are some great films on there.
