Teenage coming of age that plays into its beats perfectly. On love, losing, longing, and making it all right before the end of summer. Everything to its title, the film moves like waves, offering us the sad and the happy with gorgeous sets of one of those towns you always hear about, full of do-nothings with nobodies that donโt get a whole lot down, but a win is a win, whether its a race or a girl, or even your own happiness. Itโs as if the Stand By Me (https://letterboxd.com/film/stand-by-me/) kids grew a little older, but still had a lot of growing to do, the painstakingly painful ones, that hell called puberty into adulthood. It aches, but Yates makes it look so glorious, difficult, but glorious. Blame the gorgeous sun or the golden empty fields, but itโs one that depicts that final summer after high school. How will you live for the rest of your life?
