But when pitted against the backdrop of the Depression era, you have America at its wits end, fraying with desperation. What does hunger look like? What does crazy in the eyes look like? Jane Fonda is a swirling performance of incredible one liners with a stance that stays indignant in profound earnestness until the very end. Itโs funny that contemporary America must look to the future of science fiction to tell us doom already exists, that human civilization has already collapsed, when Pollack looked to the past to show us that human civilization way before we even got to thinking about the future. Incredible that this was made in โ69. Felt nauseous throughout. A migraine. Wondering how we even got here through all the pain and poverty.
