The Many Saints of Newark

This was… interesting. The Sopranos is far and away the greatest series ever made, maybe even the best piece of media, but TMSON falls far from the mark. The whole thing just feels off, they tried to cram so much into a two hour runtime that everything is a mess and nothing flows together. Some of the casting is great, others, like big pussy and sil, feel like they’re paradying the characters they’re portraying. The many inconsistencies which the series also starts to annoy you after a while, especially people’s ages which seem all over the place. The worst thing about this though is the riot scenes. Obviously racial justice is and always has been a massive issue, especially in the US, but this feels so forced and out of place. The series handed things like this well and gracefully without it fully taking over the show. More than half of this film is dedicated to this, and it really takes away from the story and characters we actually want to see. Lastly, Tony himself is barely in this at all. Feels like it could’ve easily been without him and they just had his scenes to get more people to watch it. Pointless in honestly. Does some things right, but most things wrong.
