What a stunner! The cast is electric! Stylish as fuck, and just about everything else is also as fuck. Hot damn! What could've been standard neo-noir fare in any other hands becomes a feature length knife-twist.

“The money doesn’t know where it comes from, but I do. If I keep it, I’m a criminal. If I give it to the government, I’m a fool. If I try to do some good with it, maybe it just makes things worse.” So, yeah this is still a masterpiece.

Phenomenal first watch of my Criterion Challenge list for 2025. Laurence Fishburne and Jeff Goldblum are such a great duo in this neo-noir thriller, watching them work together is a thing of beauty. This film has a certain swagger about it, the camerawork, editing, and soundtrack are all on point. I’m excited to dive deeper into this genre, I think this was a perfect introduction to it. Probably the most honest “war on drugs” movie ever made, and among the best in the history of cinema. Really getting into the swing of things with 2 banger movies right off the bat for this year.

Fishburne and Goldblum are firing on all cylinders here. Stylish, Blaxploitation, War On Drugs and self loathing. Underrated little car chase scene in this too. Bill Duke did not fucking missed with the colors, shots and the framing. Moves rapidly fast. People should be watching and talking about this film more
