The Art of Self-Defense
The Art of Self-Defense is a harrowing and terrifying journey through maculinity. Jesse Eisenberg essentially is a physical emobidment of the “weak” man, lacking physical strength and attitude that sepearate men from “real men”. He finds karate to be a good medium to channel his masculinity after an attack, and his life therefore changes forever. Imagine an equally awkward, but less auteur Yorgos Lanthimos film, and you’ve got The Art of Self-Defense. It’s the type of film that people are certinly going to be divided watching, but if you’re willing to embrace the film’s awkardness, it certainly has it’s payoff in the end.
The Art of Self-Defense
Imagine punching your boss in the throat. God that sounds amazing.
The Art of Self-Defense
Darkly comic look at toxic masculinity. Eisenberg is perfectly cast, and gives a performance that ranks alongside his best.
The Art of Self-Defense
Eisenberg was born for this role. Surprising. Humorous. Dark. With a wonderful ending to the madness of the whole film that makes for a thrilling ride.
