Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Old Englishmen talking, smoking, supping, sipping, threatening, cleaning their glasses, making inquiries, pushing dossiers about, and sending younger muscle off to their doom in a global struggle where any glory or idealism left is in tatters under the wear of multiple nervous breakdowns. And yet this bleak and weary business treads on, knowing no other avenue or potential. Sunken costs, sunken lives. Guinness is the main draw and populates a good deal of the series but the whole crew has a bit of a field day. It was also phenomenal to see Ian Bannen quietly address the breakdown of his character's own tortured past and present.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
I remember being intrigued by this at release, chilling amidst the bleak atmosphere as all the puzzle pieces slowly disintegrate. But now I'm Afflicted With Comparisons (oh no), revisiting this shortly after having gone through the original book and intensive 70's adaptation. I'll have my pleasant memories of it as a standalone work, but now I'm left a bit high and dry with something flattened, cursory, and even a little miscast in parts.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
ok it was extremely slow but it was good.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
really slow and you've got to be so locked in to follow it but it's really worth it and the film is beautifully shot
