Nightmares
A Bay of Blood: A Ranking of Slashers (1974 - 1990) (http://boxd.it/IoH8) #17 of Slasher September (https://boxd.it/1dTfc) One of the most broken and repetitious slashers out there, this 1980 flick from down under has the nerve to present its killer with an overused point-of-view camera, despite the fact the audience know who the killer is right from the start. Its weird ambiguity nonetheless leads viewers down a different path to perhaps a different suspect, when in actuality, there is none. After the 80 minutes spent with these characters Nightmares is barely worth any of it. The opening is missing the shock it aims for, and it might just be the worst flashback to any slasher I've seen—bad childhood and a mother's death ultimately leads a young girl down a hellish path of murder, it's simple as that. What follows is nothing but a redundant story with a lack of interesting characters and pretty iffy dialogue. This could have been fun if there was a single person to like, but instead they're all slashed and attacked by the end—with its protagonist being nothing more than a deranged and disjointed thespian. If there's one thing to take away from Nightmares it's the warning not to ever get naked down alleyways, because you will hear a stab of musical strings coming your way. 1.7/5
