Wowzer. Charlie Theron bodied the role and I enjoyed Christina Ricci.  Left researching Aileen and that’s always a good result of a movie imo.

After finishing this, I wonder if The Babadook would be any different in black and white. I can see the idea behind The Babadook in this, but it's only an idea. The whole concept of the creature, or the book, hasn't really been explored throughout. There were several scenes that were really tense, paired with the black and white, making this actually a pretty chilling short. Altogether Monster is a good short that spawned a better film.

While this may seem like a made-for-television film, the performances, mainly Theron, drive this film to it's glory. Theron's strong performance may as well be one of the greatest performances I have ever seen. People have said that Theron was born for this role, and I wholeheartedly believe this. Theron was meant to play Eileen Wuornos. While the film was hindered by the feel of a television film, Theron's performance practically trumps everything throughout. Monster may contain one of the greatest female leads of all time. My full review will be up soon.
