Undoubtedly creative and a chilling idea, Scanners is a pretty fun time. It’s got everything a Cronenberg film should have, lots of gore and disgusting graphics. The twists are also very well done, even if one is predictable. Overall it’s a very good time and should have a higher rating.

Adding +1 to the general rally for more Ironside. Almost equally important, though, was McGoohan holding together the non-Ironside moments... as the other guy almost stalled the movie in its slightly ponderous tracks. :(

Definitely the most confusing Cronenberg movie I’ve watched to date, but thoroughly enjoyable as always! Telepathy has always interested me, so I’m glad to know there’s a whole movie dedicated to it, and it’s pretty good! I don’t think the special effects in this hold a candle to Videodrome or The Fly, but in that way it acts as a kind of benchmark to show how much Cronenberg was able to improve in just a few years. This is a cool movie. There’s a coolness factor. I think the thing I love most about this guy’s movies how thoroughly the concepts are explored. This film is no exception.

Long ago, while I was still getting into film, I began my phase into the horror genre. I was constantly looking for new horror movies to watch (which now has become much harder to do, well, to find the quality ones at least). I had stumbled across a film called Scanners. It was on many lists for people who love horror. Being the new fan that I was, I put it high onto my priority list. Slowly, it made it's way down the list to the point where I had forgot that it even existed. Zoom to 2016, and I finally started looking into Cronenberg again. I had a tough choice to make when choosing my first film from him, since I was really wanting to see it. Finally, after 4 other Cronenberg films, I make it to the film that introduced me to David Cronenberg. Scanners feels like Cronenberg at his peak. It had so many elements that are present in the other films that I've watched. You could say that this is Cronenbergs most Cronenberg film. The story itself is extremely unique. Telepathy is something that has been done before, but I'm surprised that there aren't as many movies about it. This film, though, makes telepathy something actually quite entertaining. The effects throughout the film were just amazing. The iconic head explosion was extremely realistic, and actually surprised me. As shocking as the scene is, I'm again surprised that this didn't get a harder rating. I couldn't imagine what it must have been like in 1981 to see somebody's head explode. Today, it's not as shocking due to the desensitization to gore, but it still is an extremely well done scene. I really do wish that I could give this film 5 stars, since I feel it deserves it. The only thing holding me back from the 5 starts is Lack. His performance was just not good. He seemed to be okay while he was staring into the distance, but when it came time for him to deliver lines, he just wasn't good. There were actually several times throughout that made me cringe, due to the fact that he just delivered the lines so awkwardly. I don't tend to get secondhand embarrassment from films that often, but any time he spoke, it seemed that I was getting embarrassed. Cronenberg is at the peak of his career in Scanners. Other than Lack's disappointing performance, this film was just magnificent. The storytelling element of the film keeps you extremely involved during the whole thing. I know that some people don't like the middle parts of Cronenberg's films, since they seem to get slow, but it seems to work for me. I found myself really engaged throughout the whole film. I think I am able to look over the slower parts of the films, since I am so engaged into the actual story. I wish that I could give Scanners 5 stars, and maybe I will next time I watch it, but Lack just made it less perfect. As usual, I am extremely excited to see what else Cronenberg has to offer. I am so happy to finally have seen such an iconic film as Scanners is. Now I can cross it off of the list I made years ago of horror films to watch.

Scanners

A trama que gira em volta é bem interessante e subestimada, mas as cenas de ação foram mal executadas, dificultando minha afeição pelo filme. Stranger Things secou a fonte aqui.
