Diary Entry forOn the Rocks
A film which doesn’t really seem to know what it wants to be, and has very little to say, but somehow is still quite enjoyable and has some funny moments. I like the style of the film and the colour palette, it’s the story which lets this down. Feels so basic and almost rushed, not bad by any means but really lacking compared to her other work. Still, I did enjoy watching this.

On the Rocks
Only after about 5 minutes of watching On the RocksI knew that it was going to charm it’s way into my heart. And charm it did. Rashida Jones and Bill Murray have a connection here that just works so well, and Coppola’s script suits both actors so well that it isn’t a surprise that this film really worked. It’s lighthearted enough to have a good time with, but still has enough substance to keep it interesting. It may fall into clichés as it goes along, but I didn’t mind that much, as Murray really kept the film stable. Sofia Coppola (and really any of the other Coppolas) always had me intrigued to see what she will do next, and On the Rocksis a solid addition to her already impressive filmography.
On the Rocks
Bill Murray is a charming old misogynist that doesn't really learn a lot, and Rashida Jones is his daughter with suspicion that her husband is perhaps having an affair — and naturally the two then lead an investigation of their own. Sofia Coppola's On the Rocks is somewhat of a confusing little rom-com that doesn't really feel like one until its more than underwhelming ending swings by. In actuality, the guts of the film is the father and daughter relationship that's on full display, and it strangely works for most of the time. The film isn't anything memorable, and that may be in part of what it's trying to say or accomplish for that matter — it's rather all too muddled in the end. Still, if you wanna chill out, chuckle, and enjoy the beauty of New York city, then there really is no harm in watching this cozy movie.
On the Rocks
Bluntly said, this made up for The Bling Ring, but was a major fall from The Beguiled. If compared to the Bling Ring, Coppola returns to the city from LA to NY to really hash out her experience as a mother and a wife, and perhaps answers some questions that have always pinched her nerves as a product child of the great Coppola name. A fun, run of the town melodramatic comedy with Murray and Rashida, you would think of as entertaining, was nothing but dull and unfunny. Where were the sun flares? Where was that great eye of hers? Uncreative and plastic, it seems she returned to the tropes of her dull filmmaking like she did with the Bling Ring except this time it looks like a B movie Netflix flop that belongs back on the cutting board. Apple TV did not deserve this. Shout out to the one Chet Baker song timed perfectly, but where was the rest of the great Sofia Coppola soundtrack that I used to save on Spotify playlists? Big yikes, Sofia. Hope menopause doesn't fuck up the rest of your creativity. That's on periodt.
On the Rocks
