I’m glad this won Best Picture, and I’m sure that in 1942 it’s what the world needed, but today it doesn’t really do too much for me. Sure, the plot is nice and incredibly simple, but that doesn’t really carry the film very far. The death of the newly wed wife was very sad, and the horrors of war not only being on the battlefield is worth making a film about, but overall I was bored at multiple points of the story. It’s not bad by any means, but it’s not the most memorable film.
