Diary Entry forOnibaba
Undoubtedly iconic, Onibaba tells the tragic tale of jealousy. The mask is so well designed and perfectly captures the demonic feel of the entire film. It’s a fantastic watch which will stay with you for some time.

Onibaba

And she would’ve gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for those meddling raindrops! I honestly expected more horror from this, the first half was basically a drama. Great cinematography and score tho.
Onibaba
A masterclass in storytelling. Both captivating and haunting, Onibaba shows the power that a simple story can have when put into capable hands. This isn’t a terribly complicated film, yet manages to be j credibly engrossing, transporting audiences into this world completely. When I first discovered the Criterion Collectionmany years ago, this film was always one that interested me, so I am so glad to finally have seen this film. I really want to explore more this year with foreign films, since I had done so little last year. Onibabahas given me that urge to explore even further, since I’m left in awe, to be quite frank.
Onibaba
very atmospheric Japanese horror film. there’s a very oppressive atmosphere here with the sharp black and white and the tall grass that seems to almost dominate the scenery at times. depending on how you look at it, it’s supernatural, psychological, or maybe even both kinds of horror. I don’t know, I feel like it’s left ambiguous in that regard. the mask was really cool looking in a creepy sort of way. thematically I feel like it’s sort of about the fallout of society after war with how we see the lengths the mother and daughter have to go to in order to survive.
