Diary Entry forAudition
Wow this was strange. Audition is one of the creepiest films I’ve seen in a while, with pure gore and terror. Overall it’s not nearly as scary as it is disgusting, but the slow build up definitely pays off. The acting is fantastic and the mystery is great. The only part of this I didn’t enjoy was the constant ‘is this a dream’ trope, which is ever present in this. Not the greatest horror I’ve ever seen, but definitely enjoyable and well worth a watch.

gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss é definitivamente um filme. meio arrastado, muito slow e pouco burn. poderia gostar mais SE UM ADOLESCENTE ENXERIDO não acabasse com a deliciosa cena de um homem sendo torturado
Audition
Great to finally get to this one. If anything the book was a more direct read; the movie taking things... not leisurely, but at a slower resolve, as the everyday moves deftly to the surreal and then the horrific. The book at first seemed to cast a wider societal net; here it felt more intimate and individual-centered. Not that it doesn't skewer the state of things. Murakami's other story Piercing has a passage that feels appropriate, from the perspective of the person enacting violence: "She must remain uncertain as to what significance her own bloodshed and agony hold. It's vital that those on the receiving end of violence ponder its meaning. A sad and bitter but important truth." And by the end of it all in Miike's rendering you have to wonder about Aoyama's own passage through the crucible. Is there even clarity to be found amidst the rippling pains of a world which allows auditions such as his to exist so effortlessly
