Diary Entry forTo Have and Have Not
Lauren Bacall obviously steals the show in every scene she’s in, but her future husband Humphrey Bogart is just as good in this. They have a chemistry which you can obviously see transcends a the film and it works so well, there is no real mystery just a story about love and compassion, also the writing in this is absolutely fantastic. My favourite line is when Lauren says give her my love and Humphrey says if she was wearing that dress he would. Very clever writing.

To Have and Have Not
"What are your sympathies?" "Minding my own business." Howard Hawks seems to love a hang out film. Even in the midst of a world war, his characters are more concerned with getting by how they can than they are with world affairs and that’s what makes them all interesting. Bogart and Becall…genuine star power. Palpable chemistry. They bind the whole film together and elevate beyond the script’s intentions. Wonderful.
