The definition of experimental, this sets the trend for many to follow. You can still see this style today, it’s influence is historic. Obviously a classic, yet I can’t rate this as I’d have no idea what to give it out of 5. As a short film with no audio I think it’s best to just take it for what it is and not give this a rating.

Such potent imagery, choreography, Editing Editing Editing, threading objective and subjective space, fully formed and so ahead of it's ti--NO! as the plates shift just a bit and realization sets in that Deren IS our time. This film certainly is going to be an inspiration for me. Lately, I’ve been contemplating the idea of making short films, just testing the waters to see what I can come up with. I’ve been inspired by the silent films that I’ve been watching, and have thought about trying to potentially make silent avant garde short films. Meshes of the Afternoon is the exact type of film that I want to make, and I’m astounded to see what has been going on in my head actually be a reality. The dreamy atmosphere with surrealist elements is right down the path I want to explore, and this film may honestly push me to start seeing what I can do. I absolutely love this film, and hope to see what else Maya Deren was able to conjure up.

ما أتابع الأفلام الصامتة كثير وغالبا يصعب علي الاندماج معها لكن هذا من الأفلام التي تسحبك من أول لقطة. الرعب حقيقي ما كان من السكين الرعب من اللحظة اللي منت قادر على التمييز بين اليد التي تمسكه واليد اللي تطعنك. والمرأة ماكانت تطارد شبح بقدر ما تطارد انعكاس مشوّه لذاتها ويختلط فيها الحلم باليقظة ويصبح الخيال هو سيد المشهد. ولايوجد مفر لأنك أنت هو القاتل والضحية والكابوس اللي ماينتهي.
