I enjoyed this. It’s trippy and keeps you guessing, they even manage to do a fake twist which was pretty interesting. The main villain is an absolute cunt, but to make the audience really hate him the make him a pedo for no apparent reason. This is one of my least favourite movie tropes, when the director doesn’t trust the audience to dislike a character so they shoehorn in a subplot to let you know they’re evil and the bad guy. Feels so forced. However this is only a small detail and the rest of the film is a very good time. Nic Cage is pretty great in this and gives a fun performance.

I kinda think it’s a mess but I also really enjoyed it for some reason? Not sure if it was just because of Cage or the gorgeous color palette but… thats The Surfer for ya. 5.5/10* (With a big asterisk)

Cage gets to go full Cage here, and it’s glorious. McMahon is stellar here, he’s been so underutilized and he plays the smarmy surf guru to perfection. Not sure everything works here, but I enjoyed my time on this locals only beach. 2025 Ranked (https://boxd.it/D1fDm)
