Diary Entry forThe Ballad of Wallis Island
Probably the most random film I’ve seen this year but it’s actually a great time. Sure, it’s pretty soppy and Carey Mulligans character is dislikable because she virtually robs the lonely old man but still, it’s wholesome and cute, and does its purpose well. Worth watching.

85/100 Check out my 2025 ranked - boxd.it/Fn1G4 (https://boxd.it/Fn1G4) Oh this one nearly teared me up. It’s just a man who was deeply in love with someone trying to get back that one faction of life during which he was in love with her. He’s trying his best to get the band back together and with it comes their own challenges and lost love. Like Charles says “Some things you just can’t get back, Herb.” He is of course talking about his wife and it resonates to Herb that it is okay to not have things you wanted in the past and there’s no reason to change yourself to forget it, you can still embrace what you had and do it without the person you wanted it with. The world moves on and you don’t have to move on and that’s okay but you do not spend everyday dreading it. You keep the memories and try to create new ones. That’s the lesson that Herb and Charles both get and in a way Nell sparked that between them. That’s what a woman can do. A truly beautiful film that starts off shaky but has its moments of fun and tearjerkers but leaves you entirely satisfied. There’s no infidelity, no rekindling old things, it’s just a tale about finally moving on. Gorgeous location and soothing songs.
