The Last Showgirl

Incrível como filmes como O Brutalista tem preferência de prêmios como Oscar, mas esse aqui que é tão honesto, tão bem feitinho... Fica de fora. Interessante como Gia tem uma ascendência de cineastas de estilos tão diferentes e tão paupaveis, mas ela dá a volta e faz o filme do Sean Baker daqueles pertencentes a sua melhor safra de filmes e um pouco o que o Clint faz quando se dedica a explorar gêneros e dilemas de um cinema que o criou como artista e isso é algo muito interessante que a diretora trás aqui. Um Crepúsculo dos Deuses das dançarinas um dia célebres e agora renegadas a uma memória de grandeza e hiper importância. Uma espécie de sequência trágica de Showgirls do Verhoven que mostra que o principal inimigo dm Showbizz é o tempo. O senso de irmandade dessas mulheres que contemplam uma nova geração que se adequa a um estilo mais old School e precisam caminhar rumo a um estilo que abandona o exagero do glitter, das lantejoulas e dos adereços exagerados. O minimalismo é mais sobre corpos femininos e é irônico como Shelly tem uma visão mais conservadora das dançarinas... Mas em tese a diferença de uma stripper para ela é só o glamour. Ainda são corpos hipersexualizados que ganham essa máscara de luxo por uma visão romantizada da indústria e quando a mesma precisa se adequar... O showbizz é cruel, Verhoven utilizou de artifícios mais cruéis (a cena de abuso de forma gráfica e violenta até demais), mas aqui Gia Coppola demonstra a crueldade com palavras, ouvir que sua época passou, suas qualidades não se sustentam por conta do passar do tempo é cruel. Adoro como ela precisa encarar questões maternais renegadas tanto por uma questão de ambição quanto as dificuldades de ser uma mãe solo, mesmo mantendo contato com o pai da filha, nunca ser presente faz com que a filha a confronte e todo seu legado como uma dançarina é questionado por tudo e todos. O show vai ser fechado porque não é mais rentável, sua filha diz que seu show não tem propósito e a indústria mais recente joga na cara dele que ela é uma ninguém e no final o tempo é imbatível, só sobram as memórias dos tempos de glória e uma chance de recomeço. Gosto como o filme possuía uma fotografia mais Old School, mas não abandona o digital. A visão de Shelly está presa no passado, mas a imagem e todo o resto avançou. Não é um filtro "clássico" que vai apagar o gato de que o mundo atual é digital. Um filme que pode passar despercebido, mas para mim impactou!

Good movie and very cunty, I mean she still looks sexy and beautiful for her age, why do you say that? Her hobby is dancing and maybe it's her life to dance. The ending is a bit disappointing but I was cured by their dance like their dancing is screaming MOTHERS.

Gia Coppola’s latest film The Last Showgirlis a wonder. Pamela Anderson brings so much heart and humility to her role as Shelly, offering up one of the year’s most raw and captivating performances. It’s a beautifully shot film, with the 16mm film adding a warmth to the film that was needed, since the subject matter was so cold and unforgiving. It offers a complex and nuanced central character, one who Anderson transforms herself into, showing the shining star that she is. It is such a quick watch, yet manages to pack one emotional punch. A career highlight for Anderson, who I am very excited to see on our screens again in the future, since this film really is opening new doors for her to thrive in.

63/100 Check out my 2024 ranked - boxd.it/shaTi (https://boxd.it/shaTi) Look I’m all in for the grainy look in that 16mm Arriflex 416 but you gotta at least give us some clarity in wider frames because the blurred effect on the sides and lack of focus was annoying. Dave Bautista is a serious actor. He’s the best wrestler turned actor and I know he wants to be acknowledged as a serious actor with a possible awards contender. He’s making the right choices and I do believe he will get something in the near future. Pam Anderson was surprisingly good, let’s be honest, she can’t act with words at all but the moment her mouth was shut, her emotional range was quite something. She was beautiful in this movie and I somewhat liked the sad but real take on aging and life changing event for a showgirl. A good film that was let down by the lead at least partially and the order of choices. The character itself is poor and we didn’t delve further into her. Despitei being such a short film, a lot of it felt like unnecessary filler. Kiernan Shipka was possibly my favourite performance. It really is just a much worse version of The Wrestler.
