Started well, ended quite silly, hate when horror films end with no deaths of the ‘good guys’, really cheapens the film, like how on earth did he sister survive a point blank gunshot wound? When we see the shot it looks like it hit her chest, which would’ve been fatal, but miraculously the bullet seems to of moved to her shoulder so she’s absolutely fine. Also the elaborate scheme to kill the date seems so stupid when you think about it for literally one second, surely there were much easier ways to kill him, like there are so many ways their plan could’ve failed, what if her phone ran out of charge? What if she put it on silent mode cause of all the creepy ‘drops’. The whole thing feels so stupid but at least the acting was good and before the reveal I was quite enjoying it, so 4/10 seems fair.

It’s a familiar kind of mystery one location, a few suspects, and a slow build of doubt. But there’s comfort in that. I kept guessing, second-guessing, and that’s the fun. The reveal didn’t shock me, but it worked. Pacing lags at times, though maybe that’s part of letting the tension breathe.

The concept feels and looks very good before watching but it has a very slow build up without really explaining much and then it all unfolds in a single table scenes which felt a little lackluster and disappointing

Revendo depois de ter visto alguns do De Palma, revendo alguns do Collet-Serra e principalmente com nojo da cara do Zach Cregger, pra dizer que a segunda vista foi melhor. Admito que os anseios da primeira vez foram superados, mas novos surgiram e eles vêm justamente de identificar muito de um maneirismo que não vai a sua totalidade. Tá entre o cinema de paranóia pós-11 de Setembro do Collet-Serra e os maneirismos de um De Palma inspiradissimo, mas nunca vai além. Porém, contudo, entretanto o formalismo que o diretor emprega a esse filme já me agrada mais. Primeiro porque ele não tem medo de encher a tela de recursos que quebram o fator naturalista da encenação. O começo que apresenta o restaurante localizado em um prédio tão alto quanto intimidador, a forma como a câmera passeia pelos espaços, o ecossistema vivo de personagens que podem ser tanto mundanos quanto arquitetos daquela teia de conspiração isso já é bom demais. O destaque e o crescimento da paranóia por medo de um holofote nada natural, as cartelas de texto que ressaltam as dúvidas e os anseios e todo o subtexto de se impor de forma mais altiva após passar por uma situação traumática é enervada pelo momento, pela ordem e decisão crítica da protagonista. Rever esse foi mais divertido, ainda acho que não é uma obra prima, acho que o Landon tem filmes melhores, mas reconheço que até no que eu acho mais fraco dele, ele ainda se prova um diretor excelente e eu quero mais trabalhos dele sim.
