Diary Entry forCrimes of the Future
Crimes of the Future is one of the more interesting films I’ve seen this year. Cronenberg still doing it at nearly 80. The acting is fantastic, especially Viggo Mortensen and Léa Seydoux, shame Kristen Stewart isn’t in this too much but she steals pretty much every scene she’s in. ‘I want you to cut into me’ was quite disturbing, old sex>new sex I’m afraid. Not sure about the new police but yeah this was an enjoyable watch.

Crimes of the Future
Mmmmm, so good! Hadn't realized this would be as humorous as it was gut-tingling. Viggo failing to clear his throat for the runtime, furniture lurchingly rejecting us, the National Organ Registry personel being that way, performance Aaarrrtt!! craze, horned up technicians, drills to heads, incisions among alley strangers. Scrumptiously pained transhumanism rides at dawn!
Crimes of the Future

Crimes of the Future
Is it that surprising that I enjoyed this film as much as I did? Absolutely not. That being said, damn. Cronenberg is back! And man, what a journey this film takes you on. I can easily say that this certainly isn’t one of Cronenberg’s most accessible films, but with that, it’s one of his most ambitious as well. The general plot of the film is so off-the-walls that it’s difficult to actually tell someone what the film is about without making it seem like a fever dream. But that’s what I love about his work - he’s able to craft films that are intelligent, yet bizarre enough to leave heads scratching. I’m still processing this film, since there’s a LOT to take in here, but my initial reaction is one of awe. This film is firing at 110%, offering thought-provoking questions, with Cronenberg’s usual dive into body horror, and when paired with a cast as talented as this one is, it’s no surprise that I fell in love with it. Seydoux is the absolute stand-out, but Mortensen and Stewart equally hold their places within the film, offering a sturdy base for the rest of the film to lay upon. With all the good, I still feel like I need to process the film some more, since it felt a tad underbaked. The story was there, but some of the ideas didn’t feel entirely flushed out, leaving a lot of room for wiggle room, which a film as tight as this one should have been didn’t need. I think I’ll start to form more connections with time and rewatches, which I cannot wait to do! Overall, this is Cronenberg to the core. It’s odd, bizarre, and intriguing as hell. I need to finish out his filmography, since it’s one that has left me stunned multiple times. I am so, so glad that I was finally able to see this film in theaters, and cannot wait to see what else Cronenberg conjures up in the future.
