Loved the music, but wasn’t the biggest fan of this. Sure, it’s a fine film with good performances and an interesting enough story, maybe I’m just not the biggest fan of Vietnam war films. Willem Defoe is by far the best and most interesting character, and his death scene is very iconic. A decent enough time.

Platoon
Usually, I'm not a fan of war films. To me, they don't say much besides "War is bad" which becomes uninteresting quickly. However, Platoon brought something new, something I hadn't seen in a war film. It touched on the idea of violence against innocent lives during wartime and war not with "the enemy," but also within our "heroes." Another thing that I enjoyed while watching this film was its cinematography. TI noticed some neat ideas mostly with how lighting was influenced and interacted with the environment. What I was most shocked about was the acting. Before seeing Platoon, I believed acting in war films was easy and anyone could do it. While I still hold a strong belief that acting isn't a hard task in a war film, not everyone can do it, because Charlie Sheen sucked ass whenever he wasn't screaming. His deliverance of lines takes me out of the film, and the stereotypical performances of the rest of the cast also do nothing for me. The only two actors that had me engaged were Willem Dafoe and Keith David, which comes as no shock due to their excellence as actors. Overall, Platoon was, to my surprise, a solid watch. 7/10.

Platoon is intensely and impressively directed, with powerful images and a depressing atmosphere. The film depicts the madness of war mercilessly, but at times feels a bit tedious and difficult to access. Nevertheless, Platoon is an important and powerful film that resonates—even if it didn't grip me throughout.
