First one is good, second is okay and the last one sucks. As many people are saying, I wish the first section was extended to a feature and we just got that instead. I’ve never been a fan of anthology films, and this one really shows why. I left the cinema feeling cheated out of a good film because two others took up the screen time instead. Wasted potential out of a couple of good ideas, and a fantastic cast.

Sweet dreams are NOT made of this. My brain literally stopped working after watching this, there's no kindness in this movie, thank you Mr. Yorgos for telling us what's "kindness" are.

Kinds of Kindness

Since seeing Poor Things earlier this year, I’ve come to appreciate Yorgos Lanthimos’s work more than I have any other director. I’ve seen and enjoyed plenty of “weird” films, but Lanthimos is the only director I can say with confidence never uses eccentricity for eccentricities sake. His characters are stripped down to the most basic form a person can take, and by putting them in such bizarre situations, he’s able to tell universal stories about the human condition and in this film specifically, love. It may be pretentious, but in that way I believe his films are sort of kafkaesque. Of his filmography that I’ve seen so far, I believe this one is the most similar to The Lobster. Both of these films are about how far people are willing to go for love, but in some ways I find this film far more nuanced. In The Lobster, love meant survival, but in Kindness, it felt like love was a sort of addiction. Something we seek out despite the detriment it may bring to ourselves and others, and as horrible as it is to watch, it’s impossible not to understand the feeling. I’m so glad I got to catch this in theaters before it left, definitely one of my favorites of the year.
