Diary Entry forSafety Last!
Safety last has a couple funny moments and the rest is a pretty predictable story. Impressive for its time with good effects and camerawork, it’s a shame I just didn’t love it like so many others seem to. I also found it annoying at times, especially the ‘you’ll have keep going until I ditch the cop’ got very boring very fast, but the climbing was enjoyable and the clock sequence lives as one of the most iconic scenes in film history.

Safety Last!
When I watched this movie for the first time, I was absolutely blown away. I’m not a huge fan of slapstick comedy, but this movie had managed to have me on the floor dying. Upon rewatch, same thing was happening. Safety Last! is one of the most hilarious movies I have seen. But does the rest of the film match that level of humor? I can gladly say that this film is a great one. I only have two grudges with this movie. Firstly, Harold Lloyd never gets punished for lying to Mildred ever. I don’t like the idea of his continuous deception going unchecked. It’s always cool to see how he manages to worm his way out of his problems, but I also wanted to see him face failure to keep up with his facade. My other problem with this movie is the drunk guy. This guy very much so overstays his welcome. We do not need to see him after he kicks the cop. After he does that, the cop then notices Harold’s friend, the drunken guy should’ve stopped being on screen. He was a waste of time, and my smile literally faded every time he popped up again. Besides these small flaws, the movie proves itself to be incredibly engaging and hilarious. 9/10
Safety Last!
Safety Last!
Engraçadinho. Tenho certeza de que até hoje o amigo dele está fugindo da polícia. Simples, engraçado e divertido.
Safety Last!
My first silent comedy and it's like a whole new world opened up. The idea of watching Safety Last! had been on my mind recently, but it was actually seeing the poster hanging at https://letterboxd.com/film/withnail-iWithnail and Marwood (https://letterboxd.com/film/withnail-i)'s place that gave me the push and sparked my curiosity as to why that was. And I get it now (or at least I think I do): both are comedies, partly about two friends who are sharing a place. The former were broke and at the end got an eviction notice; The Boy and The Pal had "one pocketbook between them-usually empty" and also got a final notice on their rent, that could've been easily paid had Lloyd's character not spent his week's entire salary and then some on presents for The Girl. Both sets were living dangerously, and aiming big, where ultimately, one member of each was successful. The poster was foreshadowing! This amazing, easy-to-watch film doesn't waste a singe moment. Every scene serves the plot/is useful in reaching the final climbing sequence. It's also easy-to-watch and engaging because it's actually funny (some really great gags), and simple (I really needed that) but only in the way that it doesn't overcrowd the scenes but that can also be said about most old films. Maybe I should just say it's focused. Also, the music is cheery :)) The last ten minutes are thrilling! I saw a gif on my Twitter timeline, long time back, of how that wonderful stunt was shot and it was so risky. Harold Lloyd's courage, bravery and dedication is...ahh life-threatening and astonishing.
