Finally watched this and… it’s okay. I’ll go into depth on what I liked and didn’t like but overall I don’t think I’ll ever watch this again. Firstly, I watched this in one sitting, with breaks of course, and oh my God it’s long. I’ve seen long films before, at a similar run time, but non felt as long as this. I watched this in the middle of the day and I was still falling to sleep at times. I feel they could’ve easily cut maybe an hour of this and the film would’ve been no different, just my opinion. I don’t usually mind long films, and this is the first one where I seriously don’t see why it’s this long. The acting is good, with Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable both killing their roles respectively. Everyone was good in this, there’s not a lot more to say. The cinematography is my favourite part of the film, with truly beautiful shots which are breathtaking, especially when you realise these were shot in the 1930s. I feel the fact this film is so old is also of note, as it is a spectacle to behold that something this old can look so good. Obviously it’s been scaled up, but still a great achievement. The story is okay… no characters are very likeable though and I found Scarlett very annoying and obnoxious. I think the directors goal was to make her unlikable, but I’m not too sure. Again, no characters in this are likeable except for Mammy, but I’ll touch on that later. The story definitely drags though and has some serious pacing issues, with some scenes sticking around for far too long.  The racism is what often grabs people’s attention when talking about this film. Yes. It’s racist. It has lots of racist stereotypes and wouldn’t be acceptable today. If you find it hard to view things like that don’t watch this film. There’s not a lot I can say about it, it’s there, it’s bad and I wish it wasn’t there.  Overall, the film was a great accomplishment for the time, but it’s 4 hour run time is long, like really long. Honestly it feels like 6 hours. The characters are honestly quite annoying and the story is okay at best. All of this is of course my opinion, which is the beauty of this app. I never plan on watching this again, but I think it’s important to see it, as it’s iconic in its own right. Thank you for reading.

Gone with the Wind

You said it, Rhett! Last time I saw this we'd hooked up an old church projector and the PS2 for some then-still-new and glistening Gran Turismo 3 action. And then tried this out by way of a family VHS tape, possibly a bootleg at that. Didn't even bother watching at night time, shame about all those pretty colors. Anyway. American archeological dig site and we done bit through a sewage line. Shame preservation in glorious Technicolor. Nuts to think this was a multi-year movie event.
