Diary Entry forThe Celebration
Jesus, this is wild. Wish they’d of killed the Dad but I know it’s the point that his suffering will be having his family reject him till he dies, as he states at the end. Still, the crazy brother should’ve killed him, I think he would’ve if not stopped. Hopefully I never experience a dinner party quite like that.

What a way to expose your family's secret <3
The Celebration
this is my introduction to the dogme style of filmmaking and i am officially a fan. it feels so intrusive at times, almost like really uncomfortable home movies. but then you get the flip side - like you're witnessing a pleasant memory with people you've never met. this is about as real as you can get while still being a work of fiction and that allows for a greater attachment to all the characters. it's warm and shocking and deliciously uncomfortable. it's excellent
The Celebration
“This family is kaput!” The first Dogme 95 film to be released, Thomas Vinterberg’s The Celebration is an ingeniously crafted family drama/black comedy centering around a dinner and a dark secret. Forever intrinsically tied to the Dogme movement, The Celebration follows the rules it set forth – to name a few: Shooting must be done on location, must not have non-diegetic audio, the camera must be handheld, and the director must not be credited (though some of these rules are broken by pretty much every film that released during Dogme 95). In an attempt to not spoil much, I will keep this review short. There’s an elegance Thomas Vinterberg achieves through his intentionally lo-fi presentation, managing to accentuate various tones and themes in the film – I view it as quite an achievement. If anything, The Celebration is an exemplary piece of filmmaking that just furthers the idea that budget and good filmmaking are not as connected as some may believe. I watched Criterion’s newly released remaster of this film and was taken aback how they managed to make a film shot on mini-DV cassettes look so good, which excites me more to see the inevitable release of the remasteredInland Empire. I was also heavily compelled by this film to create a short little fan trailer of it, check it out (https://youtu.be/z4RW9nHaEfU)here. (https://youtu.be/z4RW9nHaEfU)
The Celebration
Like watching a car crash in slow-motion. Except it also follows the rules of Dogme 95, so a more raw and grounded car crash in slow-motion.
