Diary Entry forThe Great Ziegfeld
Some of this is genuinely entertaining and a pretty great story, yet other parts severely lack and feel so slow and boring. A real mixed bag, I feel there is a good film in here if you maybe cut around an hour of the film. Flo’s life seems genuinely interesting and like non other, maybe the best broadway producer of all time and I’m glad I managed to find out about this life through this film. The overly long dance sequences and unnecessary dialogue take me out of the momentum at times though which really hurt this and it’s rating.

The Great Ziegfeld
With extravagnace running through its veings, The Great Ziegfeld marks a stunning achievement for MGM. Opulent sets, beautiful costumes, and some great dance numbers litter this film, offering the epitome of on-screen theatrics. While this film does have a lofty runtime, which could have been trimmed down, especially toward the beginning, it is still an absoultely wonderful film. I know that this film is quite the controversial one, as it wasn’t considered the best film of the year by most, so I’ll have to check more films out from 1936 to see it for myself. But, I still enjoyed this film very much, and was surprised to see how much I actually enjoyed it.
