Diary Entry forA Woman Under the Influence
Gena Rowlands as Mabel is enough reason alone to watch this. What a truly fantastic performance. One of the all time great performances. The camera work is amazing. The story does feel slow at times, especially when Mabel isn’t on the screen, but every scene she’s in is captivating. Fantastic film.

why is everyone screaming?
A Woman Under the Influence
No emotions now. I really want to be calm. Nick brings his whole work gang back home and I kinda had the first real inkling this thing was gonna' kill me proper. Projects like Mad Men come along decades after the fact and take a stab at What's Wrong, and even then it's largely the subsequent generation(s) getting to the analyzing and the hindsight'ing. But holy smokes here are Cassavetes & Rowlands smack dab in their moment, getting their mothers involved, and hauling a screaming 1970-something's open & bleeding body into the operating room. (Maybe the 'self-surgery' image is so quick at hand due to still coming off that Paul Bettany Master & Commander high, but I regress. back into the ocean. A battlefield. Nearly as awful as a dining room scene in 1974.)

Rest in Peace, Gena Rowlands. You will be missed.

Knowing that Gena Rowlands has developed Alzheimer's.. this make my heart ache so hard
