Modern day robin-hood, King of New York has you question who you’re truly rooting for. The best thing about this film is that everyone is bad. The police are bent on taking justice into their own hands, and Frank White is trying to help the poor whilst killing people and selling drugs. The ginger cop is probably top five most annoying characters in all of film for me, I absolutely hated him. Wish this film had more bite though, at times it felt toothless and almost like it was trying to live up to the gangster genre, instead of making something truly unique.

Having previously watched 4:44 Last Day on Earth, I thought I'd watch the other Abel Ferrara film on MUBI, and I am beyond glad that I did. A darker, grittier modern day loose adaptation of Robin Hood, King of New York offers the gritty realism that Robin Hood deserves to be told in. Christopher Walken yet again stuns here, and with a cast featuring the likes of Wesley Snipes and Laurence Fishburne, it's not a surprise that this film is as good as it was. It hones in on the neo-noir aspect to create a world of grime and scum, but through it all, creates an entertaining film. MUBI has had a constant streak of good film being on there, and King of New York is no different.

Insane moviemaking. So committed to the atmosphere and style. Christopher Walken is for sure top 5 white guys of all time. Laurence Fishburne blew me away with his performance. they don't make movies like this anymore
