I would be lying if I didn’t say I was disappointed with this. The first hour or so I really enjoyed, and thought was excellent, but the ending was… okay. The whole monster sequence felt silly and too much, I know that’s the whole point and the issues it tries to address are handled well, but the extreme body horror just didn’t do it for me at all. It looked goofy and took me out of the film. The acting is great as you’d expect with the two leads but I feel this could’ve been so much more. I seem to be alone in this thinking though as the rating is exceptionally high, I wish I enjoyed it more than I did.

SOOOKTOBER #13 (https://boxd.it/zl64c) THE SUBSTANCE is one of those movies that’s intentionally uncomfortable from start to finish. It’s bold, unpredictable, and really left me without words. The script takes some serious risks, and the visuals are just stunning. Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley are incredible, commanding attention the moment they’re on screen. Honestly, it’s one of the best directing efforts this year, and the makeup work deserves all the praise—maybe even an Oscar nod. 2024: RANKED (https://boxd.it/sDDDC)

i dont think there are words i can put together to describe how im feeling other than this is fucking crazy holy shit. i honestly did not expect this would be the way it would go. i literally had no idea what is the premise of the movie other than the memes ive been seeing so imagine my surprise when it goes gorier and gorier as the movie progresses my god. the cinematography, the camera work, the sound design, the color grading are all so incredible like wow wow wow. and kudos to demi moore and margaret qualley acting their asses off, that shit is amazing. that one scene where elisabeth is looking at herself in the mirror getting ready to meet with fred and going in and out the bathroom because she cant seem to be satisfied with what she looks resonated so much with me, it honestly one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the movie. god i really wish women are treated better by this world. other than it really just boils down to patriarchy making women feel like they are not beautiful anymore once they get older and putting a limit to their beauty. till the end of the film the voices he hears are from men and their opinion abt her its fucking insane this is why its always fuck men. she literally died trying to fit in with the unattainable beauty standards set by men god. women you are so beautiful and so loved dont let any man tell you otherwise.
