Diary Entry forMank
Mank was one of my most anticipated films this year and it was amazing to watch it at Everyman Cinema, York. The films itself is great, although I feel it sometimes losses itself in the story its trying to tell by focusing too hard on side plots, for example the presidential race. The costume are fantastic and the acting is superb, Amanda Seyfried being the highlight for me. Another note is about the references which are made throughout the film to numerous directors and screenwriters. Some of which I got, some when straight over my head, but overall they were fun for film fanatics Not my favorite Fincher, but I had a great time watching and was entertained throughout.

I liked the look of it, but mostly the sound of it. The wholly unnatural studio-era glee of the always perfect riposte and general whip-snap of conversation. A very okay flick with some pleasant Hollywood naval-gazing, if a bit tepid.

Essa devoção digitalizada limitante de Fincher pelo formalismo de Welles e até mesmo por texturas e contornos que espelham um saudosismo sintético dessa Hollywood em consolidação são os deméritos que mais ressoam em Mank. Diferente de seus outros filmes onde a sobriedade farsesca de sua composição e seu flerte explícito com o digital conferiam um complemento as questões das quais se debruçava, aqui, o sentimento equivale a assistir um fac-símile empobrecido do Cidadão Kane e inserido nessa estética pasteurizada do streaming. Sua fragilidade na composição está diretamente ligada ao tratamento dramático que oferece ao contexto e até mesmo as nuances de dramaturgia do protagonista, vivido pelo Oldmam mais hiperbólico e desinteressante de sua carreira.
