Diary Entry forIn a Lonely Place
This 1950s noir thriller should've clicked for me a lot more than it did. Not to say I didn't enjoy this, as there was lots to live. My biggest gripe is that I didn't feel as invested as I thought I should be, I have no idea why. The acting is stellar, and the ending perfectly captures the film. Might need a re-watch in years to come.

In a Lonely Place
What a way to celebrate the first year of The Criterion Channel! I certainly need to utilize it more, which is my goal for the rest of the year! Here’s to many more years of such a fantastic streaming service! And what a film! In a Lonely Place is your traditional old Hollywood production, filled with suspense and drama, with a fantastic leading man, this time being the always great Humphrey Bogart. It may be on the shorter side when it comes to a classic crime drama, coming in at a little over an hour and a half, but I couldn’t take my eyes of the screen the entire time. This is a film that I’ve been wanting to watch for a very long time now, and I am so glad that it was what I chose to celebrate The Criterion Channel’s first year!
In a Lonely Place
Cruel film, Bogart is very scary in this! Great character study and Nicholas Ray masterfully builds tension between Dix and Gray. Really love the tight framing to make the whole movie claustrophobic and paranoid
In a Lonely Place
revisting this one for my film club. you know as far as the already dark subgenre of film noirs go, this is perhaps especially dark. maybe it’s the way it really gets into the troubled psychology of its characters that makes it that way.
In a Lonely Place
one of my favorite noirs i’ve seen as of late-almost reads as a deconstruction of the genre, being more a character study of a troubled man who ends up pushing people away with his own attitudes. decidedly a non-glamorous take on these sorts of characters. just as much a romantic melodrama as it is a noir, but there’s always the idea that something could be set off at any moment.
