Godzilla
took me enough time to watch one of the most influential monster movies but hey i’ve done it now. though they might be considered dated through a modern lens, the effects are pretty good for their time. and perhaps most notably this film makes for a haunting allegory for the effects of nuclear warfare, making the film darker and more melancholic than some might initially expect.

Victims of Sin
CRITERION CHALLENGE 2026 #13-SONG AND DANCE _____ seen it before but it’s pretty solid. blends melodrama and lively, energetic dance numbers together in an entertaining way. ultimately a pretty hopeful film, and I like the moments when the ladies come together to support each other. cool seeing a noir film that’s so focused on the women

Midnight Cowboy

Midnight Cowboy

The Lost Boys

Labyrinth

Prisoners
really good movie. insanely tense and stressful for basically the entire runtime because i mean how can it not be with what the premise is? seriously it’s a horrible thing to think about, especially from the perspective of those who have kids. performances are great of course, everyone brings their a game with capturing how people respond to a situation like this. this movie looks great too, lots of great shots of lights against the rainy pavement which i always find really cool looking. forgot a couple details but that ending is still memorable.

Dead Horizons
am i trying to complete Another french director’s filmography on the Criterion Channel? yes. and also i have somehow been lacking the motivation to watch feature films outside of my assigned watches. anyhow, it’s fairly simple in terms of plot but i like some of the moodiness and atmosphere in it.

Sorry to Bother You
peter. the horse is here.

Brief Encounter
In the Mood For Trains. should def rewatch (perhaps earlier in the day to have a better review). beautifully shot film about a poignant but ultimately doomed romantic affair.

Mississippi Burning
i can see where the critiques of this film being a portrait of the civil rights movement and race that centers its development towards the white characters while having black characters be less developed and more plot devices, but i found the lead performances to be quite solid and a definite plus to the film along with the cinematography and score. would like to see other films that tackle these subjects in a maybe more accurate way.

Koyaanisqatsi
CRITERION CHALLENGE #12 JUDGE A FILM BY ITS COVER ________ real awesome looking (and sounding) film. an audiovisual experience if there ever was one. conjures up a lot of different feelings and honestly i feel like a lot of it is up to the viewer to take away meaning from with the lack of a dialogue to tell the viewer what to think. though i’d wager the interpretation of the film as being a critique on society holds up well. not just because of what the title is revealed to mean at the end, but the film’s pivot from long, relaxing takes of nature to increasingly chaotic scenes of modern urban life. it’s all still very beautiful to look at in a way though.

The Ugly Stepsister
why would they call me that at the end of the end :/ (being jokey here btw i do know it’s the end card) missed the first few minutes of this. good body horror retelling of cinderella! sufficiently nasty at times, gets that across well. poor girl did all that for a bloke that absolutely sucked but like yeah beauty standards’ll do that to a person. alma was the real mvp.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire
CRITERION CHALLENGE 2026 #11 KING PRINCESS TOP 10 ______ yeah yeah i know i’m not trying to do too many rewatches for this challenge. but however can you blame me when it comes to this film because it’s really good. a slow burn that has a lot of emotion beneath the surface. visually it looks great, with a lot of vibrance in certain costumes and locations. stories about fleeting yet meaningful connections sure like to kick me in the heart.

Pride & Prejudice
i am not immune to the beauty of this film.

Fargo
oh ya. great movie.

Body Double
the first narrative film i have to watch from criterion’s VHS Forever collection. a good start! obvs you know very much a homage to Hitchcock films (such as Vertigo and Rear Window) but way more sexual and violent and stuff. very engaging, filmed very well.

Hello Cubans
learned some new things from this. i like how varda captures her subjects with like what’s the word…there’s a lot of love and life put into it.

Cléo from 5 to 7
varda seems to really like cats. and so do i. had seen this before but forgot some parts (as per my last review on the short film that plays in this movie). introspective movie. i think the film being told from a woman’s perspective makes it work because it shows how this woman interacts with the men around her. also like how as the film progresses we see more of the camera just lingering on people going about life. very nice final 20 minutes.

Fiancés on the Bridge
i guess Technically i have seen this before since I watched Cleo from 5 to 7 but i guess I forgot. also i’m a completionist and trying to get through all the Varda films/shorts on Criterion.
