It’s kinda crazy how I’ve watched almost every animated DC movie even those kid Lego ones and arguably the most popular one is the one I hadn’t till today. It’s a gorgeous film, some of those shots take me back to a time I didn’t exist in, that’s pure nostalgia and just mesmerising painting. “Vengeance blackens the soul Bruce.” This is not some simple Batman origin story movie or some regular Batman just fighting a big villain, it’s Batman finding himself and fighting loss, fighting to restore some normalcy but having it all taken away by the one person he loved who also loved him but simply could not bear the loss of her father. She couldn’t do what Bruce did. The Joker is the cherry on top, Mark Hamill’s best work till date. They showed us parallels of the path you take, unfortunately one thing remains common - loneliness. There’s a longing for love, there’s a beautiful romantic relationship that’s better than anything we’ve ever gotten in live action and there’s more than just the loss of his parents shaping Bruce here. It’s a beautifully made film with an excellent soundtrack and perhaps most culturally significant - memes. Also the influence is crazy because The Batman, Dark Knight trilogy clearly have elements inspired from this film, truly an all timer.
