This dragged me—tragic, unhinged, and too hot to handle.

As a literature student i totally agree with this one. Writing something that suits your passion does require courage and you have to dive into that world. Max or Sebastian seems to enjoy all of that, being horny and having gay sex with oldies for the sake of the erotica of the novel he is making, in my opinion this is one of the gay sex films that is very brave and raw in its shooting. I want to read all your sex stories Max.

I knew I had to check out Ruaridh Mollica’s discography after hearing the news about him getting casted in Vision Quest. And honestly? I am floored! There’s something so honest and quietly pure in his performance that pulls you in and stays with you. Now I know how breaking the fourth wall in films can sometimes feel a bit forced, but he made that last scene work beautifully. Truly a powerful way to tie up his story.

i love the cinematography and the pacing of this film, it's a good match. amazing performance by max/sebastian's actor and others. so more to the actual film, maybe i didn't get it but with such topic, you'd think you'd get more of what it is. however it just ended up a bit of a flat ending and maybe that's the point of the film but i expected much more than that given the topic. overall, it was a good watch.

“You can ask me anything.” There’s certainly something intriguing about exploring what a laborious process becoming a queer published author has become. How so often we must commodify the self to be seen, to be taken seriously. We must meticulously extract identity and history, and sift through them until we find something palatable, something that can be used in the pursuit of prestige. However SEBASTIAN only uses this idea as window dressing, a facade to obscure the much more boring film that it is. While the aspect of becoming the very subject you intend to research or write about is interesting, Mäkelä mostly drops that in pursuit of the personal drama that comes with the overlapping lives of being a sex worker and a writer and the strain of having to balance both to be a present person in your career and personal life. This is not a particularly interesting direction for the film to go in, especially given that there’s never a sense of urgency, tension, or even tangible consequences for the character. It’s kind of just the same scenes playing out over and over again until we reach the conclusion. A film that is, instead of curious, wholly indifferent to the very story it is attempting to tell.
