it was interesting to see the sports news team take on the coverage of something this big and serious like a hostage situation but you couldn't pay me to give a fuck about israelis getting payback for all the horrors they've been putting Palestinians through since 1948.

Actually I think they only think about ratings and competing to be the first to report it. This movie is like Saturday Nights but more suspenseful, and also it comes from a real event that makes it more gripping, and the propaganda... not the right time actually.

63/100 Check out my 2024 ranked - https://boxd.it/shaTi I am conflicted. The timing of this film is convenient to say the least. On one hand, it doesn’t work because you’ve got Israel committing genocide and this film asking you to empathise with Israelis and yes a rational being should be able to because that was a different time and those were innocent people. It goes without saying that not all Israelis are killers and not all Palestinians are terrorists. On the other hand, if you are someone who hasn’t been keeping tabs on the war and depending on your region sides with one party or the other, this works if you are in the West or India because you have a factual re telling of a terrorist attack by people from Palestine that happened more than 50 years ago. This shows that this conflict isn’t as one sided as it has been for these past two years. It’s no genocide but a terrorist attack is inhumane nonetheless. Now as a rational human being, you should be able to differentiate and not label everything that doesn’t support your cause as “propaganda.” That word is being used very lightly these days even by people you would rely on an opinion for, people you think are smart. I’ve seen people claim that this film doesn’t give you a background into the conflict and serves as Israeli propaganda. I mean no, there is zero burden for a backstory because this is simply a factual re telling of a horrible event that happened a long time ago. There is absolutely zero need to educate people on the conflict. The truth is that Palestinian terrorists killed Israelis and of course were shot dead as well. If you want to know more, do your research. This gives you a reference point. It doesn’t advocate for Palestine and supposedly paints a bad picture on Palestine so that doesn’t make it Jewish propaganda. Believe it or not, there are horrible people on both sides. Don’t fool yourselves into thinking that terrorists don’t represent a country. That term was introduced to separate the militants from the country they belong to but the truth is they belong to that particular country and their ideologies were shaped in that nation and there have to be factors that shaped it. Terrorism doesn’t simply appear out of thin air, it is built and shaped by events which ultimately lead to a trigger point, I’m not justifying terrorists but it is too simple a point saying their actions don’t reflect the people. Not everyone has the guts for violence and not everyone believes in something as strongly as they do but there are many people who hold the same beliefs, just not as strongly to propel them into a humanitarian crisis. Now about the film, while I did learn something, I find it a bit disrespectful to the hostage situation and to the Germans as well. Sure they failed to resolve the issue but this constant reference to Nazi Germany does get a bit tiring even in that short 80 minutes because realistically, how do you even prepare for this? This blame game gets a bit boring and getting a German girl to act all remorseful for something that they must’ve moved past from leaves a bitter aftertaste. That is the only point I felt anything close to propaganda because they make it seem like Germany killed the Jews again. I find this film disrespectful to the whole situation because it becomes quite apparent that they are a newsroom that wants to be first, they really don’t give a shit about the hostages, for them this is TRP and yes they address that and in fact they address almost all moral qualms you might have but keeping acting the way they are regardless. I would’ve preferred more journalism outside the room, something on the ground to create much more impact but well that’s the style they chose and I’m afraid they chose wrong. The acting is good as can be, nothing special and the script is better. I just did not find this film as interesting as I did the story.

Funny enough to read all these comments saying propaganda when it’s literally what happened, and all the archive footage is here to prove it. Nice to see Leonie Benesch once again after her good performance in Das Lehrerzimmer, she’s becoming the new Sandra Hüller.
