Diary Entry forSore: A Wife from the Future

Peak cinema, actually. I love the concept of "I would die many times just to save you" and "I hope in another universe, we would still be together." This shows someone who is willing to sacrifice themselves for the person they truly love, and honestly, this film captures it really well.
Sore: A Wife from the Future
I found out about this film when I sorted every film from 2025 by highest average rating until I saw a film that wasn't a concert film / music video, short film, tv show, documentary, or something that I didn't recognize. I read the description of this film and I thought it sounded absolutely incredible, so I tried watching it immediately... but couldn't find it anywhere. It wasn't streaming anywhere and there was no news on a rough estimate of a release for the film in theaters or on streaming. But I always thought about the film, optimistic that one day, I could watch it. Then Letterboxd announced the Video Store. I thought it was a fantastic idea, but probably something I would never use. Shortly, they revealed the "shelf" of the month and I could not believe my eyes. There it was. So, I waited for the video store to release. I clicked on the film and immediately noticed the price. $20. To rent the film. So I didn't watch it. As more time passed, I realized that while it may be quite a bit of money, it was a foreign film that is not being released anywhere by anybody else. This might be my only shot at watching the film for a long, long time. So I bit the bullet and bought it. If I could go back to that moment 10,000 times, I'd spend all $20 on it, every time. This film is 100% worth it. I was expecting the film to be good, maybe even great off premise alone. However, this was a breathtaking film. Not only is it a well written movie that really captures the concept excellent, it's also a shockingly mesmerizing experience as well. The cinematography is up there for my favorite of the year, and possibly one of my favorites of all time. I hope Yandy Laurens and Dimas Bagus Triatma Yoga stay as a duo for the rest of time! Not only that, the performances are brilliant. Sheila Dara Aisha delivers one of my favorites of the year, but Dion Wiyoko and Goran Bogdan also do very well in the film. After watching this, I want to see every film Yandy Laurens has made (which, so far, is a short filmography), but I gotta get to watching my 2025 watchlist to make my own personal picks for award categories in Award Expert. In such an incredible year for film, I thought One Battle After Another was going to be the peak of it and nothing else would even come close, but Sore: A Wife from the Future proved me wrong. When I finished watching, I genuinely couldn't decide between which film was actually at the top for the entire year. But I ended up giving it to OBAA because I did remember that there is one thing I wasn't too enthusiastic about from the film, and that is the soundtrack. It's not horrendous, but I didn't really dig it. But hey, if that's my only criticism for a film on this scale of quality, that's not bad at all. Sore: A Wife from the Future was logged immediately after the viewing and was given, without second thought, a 10/10. Phenomenal film, everyone should watch it while Letterboxd still has it in the Video Store.
Sore: A Wife from the Future
honestly, i rarely watch indonesian films and the only reason i watched this was bec of the rave reviews it got when it was released last year. people applaud it for its cinematography and the story, which i do have to agree on the cinematography part, bec this movie does look very beautiful, it helps that the places that they shot this movie at were all stunning. as for the story, the first act did catch my attention and got me invested. but as the story goes on, i did get frustrated with how the plot was progressing and the choices that the female lead acted upon. also, i got to give props to sheila dara who played sore, she carried this movie on her back! if it wasn't for her, i think the movie would not work out.
