This film is going to give me forehead wrinkles, but the script! Wow! Codependency is a disease, but it does give one an excellent opportunity to make a beautiful and very very frustrating film about the intricacies of love and longing. I'm so mad! But it was so good!!
Passages
A rich and compelling examination of modern relationships, Passages manages to be a shining star amongst this year’s films, showing how faith in good actors and a great script can transform a film into something incredible. The three main actors here, being Rogowski, Whishaw, and Exarchopoulos, are deeply rooted within reality, making this film feel natrual, as if it were a documentary about a troubled marriage, rather than a fictional film. Director Ira Sachs feels relaxed, but in total control over this film, driving it with precision as we venture through the troubled waters of this relationship. It’s a captivating story, one that many may not completely understand, as modern relationship ideals differ, sometimes significantly, from traditional values, but I’d hope that they would be willing to give this film a chance, as it does open the doors for conversation about relationships and sexuality, both topics that can be quite difficult to discuss. Passages has been on my radar for most of the year, and I am so glad that I finally had the chance to experience this film, as it truly is something special.

If there’s a messier relationship in 2023 I will be absolutely shocked. Beautiful performances drive us forward as Tomas crashes through the lives of Martin and Agathe. Though perhaps on the nose in some ways, the ending is perfect. 2023 Ranked (https://boxd.it/kiMdu)
