She just wanted to be loved the way she imagined it: with bruises, with surrender, with control. But real love doesn’t read scripts.

TA. OK. NOSSA. MALUCA???? Bruto. Animal.). Que final INSANO. Eu tô apaixonada.

The Piano Teacher

Almost from the start I was all in on Huppert's take on Erika. Every inch of her frustrated compartment of a life is felt, with just the barest violence in reserve via those appraising stares and flailing desire. The terminally Mothering home environment actually felt greatly toned down by comparison to the book. It took a little while, but I even came around on Klemmer's characterization; I definitely want to see other work the actor's done. Well into it there's a scene where posters for 2000's "Frequency" and "The Skulls" are featured and I had a jarring sense of displacement. The trappings and context of the film feel older than it is, much in the same way the book felt sprung from an isolated space decades earlier than its own 80's vantage point. Another bee-line for me from written source to filmed adaptation, bad mojo all around, A+ rancid times, good feels torn asunder. Says quite a bit of a filmmaker like Haneke to look over an unfilmable book and simply go, "Ah yes, I will film THAT."
