Tender, intimate, and deeply felt. A story about home, identity, and longing, elevated by a stunning lead performance.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn

Brooklyn is an extremely faithful adaptation of Colm TĂłibĂn's novel, with a strong lead played by Saoirse Ronan. Per usual, I love to read the novel before watching the film. So, when I saw Brooklyn was going to be a film, I immediately went and purchased the novel so I could read it before watching the film. I fell in love with the novel, getting really invested into the characters. Once finished though, I felt a hole, like there needed to be more. So, going into the movie, I was hoping that they would fill this hole after reading the novel. And that is exactly what they did. This film is an extremely faithful adaptation, reminiscent of Gone Girl in terms of faithfulness. I was extremely happy to see how close this film was to the novel, just as it was a fantastic novel. Ronan was amazing. Eilis seems like such an ordinary character to play, but Ronan completely brings her to life, making her an extremely compelling and real character. Cohen does a fantastic job as well as Tony, keeping the charm of his character from the novel. I am extremely satisfied with the ending of the film, as it offers the closure to the novel that was much needed. Brooklyn is a fantastic film about a normal girl in a big world.
