court-drama based on true events always interest me and this one didn't fail to do so. loved the use of flashbacks as the movie goes on, instead of all of the events happening at the beginning and then it's the trial for the rest of the movie. i do also love a movie that calls out how broken the system is and that proves once again that all cops are bastard.

A tight court drama that goes down very smoothly. Sorkin knows how to write a gripping and quick script, which makes The Trial of the Chicago 7 work so well. I wish his direction was a little more inspired, but it does what it needs to so they can successfully tell this story. Some pretty strong performances, with Sacha Baron Cohen and Mark Rylance being the standouts. Overall a pretty strong film.

And for that, we were gassed, beaten, arrested, and put on trial.❞ · · ───── ⊹⊱∆⊰⊹ ───── · · Unfortunately I don't know enough about the real-life events to feel comfortable giving this a higher rating; based purely on what I felt while watching, it was a very good courtroom drama, interspersed with footage from the 1960s. Some of the script felt a little forced, but overall I did like it. I was pretty surprised by some of the performances; I've always thought of Sacha Baron Cohen as a comedic actor, but in my opinion he had some of the strongest acting here. As the film progressed, it went from interesting to downright frustrating (mostly because of the judge), but overall it was pretty solid.
