Felt like I was being punished for ever calling myself a film lover. Should’ve come with a pillow and a warning.

Goodbye, Dragon Inn

I've seen countless films where nothing much happens but damn... this one barely has any lines or dialogue, just pure vibes.

Goodbye, Dragon Inn

“No one comes to the movies anymore.” GOODBYE, DRAGON INNproposes what I’ve personally come to believe: that the cinematheque is sacred. In the dark we are in communion with not only ourselves, but the people around us. Together, we are exploring whole worlds—not just with what’s on the screen, but the worlds our very presence creates. How easy it is to forget that you might be the colorful background character of someone else’s story. The loner up front, the man chewing too loudly, the person who sat right next to you when there were whole rows available…it’s honestly bewildering how Tsai Ming-liang was able to paint such a vivid and moving representation of what it’s reallylike going to the movies. Some might fight the deliberate and slow pacing monotonous or boring, but for me, Ming-liang’s steady images and lack of dialogue drew me into the story further forcing me to pay attention and almost tell the story to myself as I watched it. A unique viewing experience, can’t wait to delve more into Ming-liang’s filmography!
