Diary Entry formother!
SPOOKTOBER #14 Oh man, Darren Aronofsky is a master at making audiences uncomfortable. The whole movie had me feeling exactly what JLaw’s character was going through—especially as an introvert, this was seriously unsettling to watch. Lmao.

I understand the metaphor of mother being mother earth and how she gives and gives but is constantly treated like absolute shit. The only praise I have for the film is that: A) Javier Bardem is in it B) I like the metaphor they were going with. Everything else about the film is not great. The film is not subtle about anything, making it crystal clear what the metaphors are, and the execution makes it appear extremely bizarre. The movie is so comically outlandish in its storytelling that it becomes hard to stay engaged. I feel nothing for the characters; their actions are too ridiculous to take somewhat seriously, and the insane escalations that occur make this film not even bad but somehow boring. The ending is just as crazy as the film; I can't describe how silly it is if I tried. With all the negative things I said, I still appreciate and respect what this film tried doing. But the failure in capturing it by being too over the top is disengaging entirely. 3/10.
