Where'd You Go, Bernadette
Tender, but after the first 30 minutes i got fully lost on what the film is going for. Anyway, love Linkarter and much love to Blanchett.
Where'd You Go, Bernadette
This fell flat for me. I was excited because though it was a rather annoying little novel to get through, I heard that Linklater would be taking over it. I hoped with his 'Before' series and 'Boyhood' sentiments, he could save this dysfunctional family, but what I saw was a rehashed Cate Blanchett from Woody Allen's 'Blue Jasmine', and though I loved the fuck out of the performance, it could not be the saving grace of this laborious film. Linklater took his time with this one, translating the story from book to film with too much literal comprehension, though he lost us. He lost us in the different ways he tried to cram all the details of the book into the film. We get too much. We're overstuffed, and thus, everything felt flat. I'm just hoping this better not be the only noteworthy thing to watch on the plane when I go back home for winter.
